Welcome to the Month of Letters 2024 Logo Design Challenge!

Month of Letters, started in 2010, is a challenge that involves connecting with others via mail. We are in need of a new logo for the 2024 LetterMo challenge and for the new LetterMo website. The LetterMo Board of Directors is excited to invite you to participate in this exciting opportunity. Your task is to design a captivating and meaningful logo that represents the essence of the Month of Letters challenge.

Design Guidelines:

  • Brand: The logo should incorporate the Month of Letters name and year, 2024 (LetterMo 2024).
  • Simplicity: The logo should be clean and easily recognizable, even in smaller sizes.
  • Theme: Consider incorporating elements related to letter writing, such as envelopes, quills, or handwritten script, into your design.
  • Color Palette: Creativity is encouraged; consider using colors that evoke warmth, nostalgia, and a sense of connection. The logo should work in both color and black-and-white formats.
  • Legibility: All types should be large enough to be legible in smaller formats, such as on the LetterMo website or as a social media account icon. Fonts should be accessible, ADA compliant typefaces (Example: Times New Roman, Verdana, Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, and Calibri).
  • Versatility: The logo should also be adaptable, scalable, and reproducible for use on various platforms, including digital and print media.

  • All submitted work must be the original work of the entrant and must not include, be based on, or derive from any pre-existing or third-party designs, trademarks, or copyrighted images.
  • While the design may include elements of graphic design (such as Canva clipart), the overall design should be your own creation.
  • Submissions must be 1,024 px by 1,024 px.
  • Hand-drawn artwork must be submitted as the highest quality possible scanned JPEG image, with a minimum resolution of 72 dpi. File sizes should not exceed 10 MB.
  • Digital graphics must be submitted as a vector file (AI or SVG) for maximum scalability and versatility.
  • Each submission must be accompanied by a description of 1,000 characters or less explaining what the imagery represents or references and why it represents Month of Letters. The description should also explain any graphic elements used if the submission is digital art.

Hopefully this helps you find your way around the LetterMo website, and as always, if you still have questions, just ask.

After March On… it’s time to Write_On for April Showers of Mail!

Since 2001, April has been known as National Card and Letter Writing Month when it was officially designated by the U.S. Postal Service “to raise awareness of the importance and historical significance of card and letter writing.” Well, it’s no surprise that it’s another favourite month of LetterMoians too!

Egg Press in Portland, Oregon, started the WriteOn Campaign in 2014 with the hopes of creating a letter writing habit by completing the joyful task and challenge to write 30 letters in 30 days during April. Their mission is to “promote joy, creativity, expression, and connection through hand-written correspondence.” They have a great list of resources including templates and printables. Need to stock up to get through the month? They have a limited supply of special #Write_On merchandise available and have a special offer on qualifying online purchases through March 31st with special code.

Do you enjoy meeting other card and letter writing fans? Check out their calendar for events or the Directory of Letter Writing Societies to see if there is a group in near you to see if they are having a meet up. Most of them also accept mail too so you could add them to your list! The directory was created earlier in 2019 by Megan Hillman, the founder and letter-writer-in-chief of the Colorado Correspondence Coalition. Please contact her if you have started your own letter writing club and want to be added to the list.

Still looking for someone in addition to your LetterMo friends to write to in order to meet your goal of 30 mail items? Consider #MissionMail – from the LetterMo STAMP (bingo) game P2: Participate in a Mail Mission – Members have already posted several ways to put positivity into the world via mail” by sending words of encouragement and support, and to bring a bright spot to someone’s day.  They include: US Military members or being a Soldiers’ Angel, Canadian Forces  members, Mail More Love to folks who have been nominated,  Prisoners, EldersFoster Youth, Hospitalized Kids, Peace Corps members,Long distance truck drivers, and showing support and solidarity after tragedy in Christchurch , New Zealand. You can also check the LetterMo Facebook Groupas members post other mail writing campaigns they come across.

Do you want to track your letter writing? Check out this collaboration stamp by Rhea of @MailMoreLove and Paper Pastries to show what number piece of mail you’re on #/30, as well as all the other adorable mail related rubber stamps. Speaking of stamps, these are my current personal favourite snail mail stamps from Wit & Whistle.

Does the idea of 30 Items still seem daunting? Consider Pretty by Post’s #SendCardsSpreadLove Challenge which runs April 15-19. Danielle, PbP’s Chief card curator & paper lovah, asks if you have 5 days (yes, just 5!) to dedicate to your loved ones to create deeper connections by sending cards and spreading love that will become keepsakes that will last a lifetime. When you sign up, you will receive an email with the #SendCardsSpreadLove Challenge outline as well as a special code for limited time offer for free shipping if you’re interested in ordering curated greeting cards and stationery. You will also receive tips, resources and you can enter to win daily prizes when you post your entry in the private Facebook Group or Instagram. Sign up today and get all the details about this fun challenge. The official hashtag is #sendcardsspreadlove.

Speaking of fun, be sure to check out Sara, Snail Mail Superstar and LetterMo supporter from Constellation & Co. for a month of deals, new releases during National Card & Letter Writing Month, as well as resources about reasons to write and overcoming hurdles to writing.

Remember to share and tag your mail-errific efforts this April on your posts on Instagram or in the daily mail call in the LetterMo Facebook group so we can cheer you on:

March On

Whether you were a postal star and smashed our Month of Letters Challenge, or you felt fortunate enough to find a group of people who have a passion for paper mail, the LetterMo Postmasters would like to thank you for your participation in this year’s challenge! We especially appreciate all of the patience and support you’ve expressed for the maiden voyage of the new team. Thank you!

But wait! There’s more!

While the “mail at least one item through the post every day it runs” part of our challenge has come to an end, the second part of the challenge is still very much at hand: “answering everyone who wrote to you.”

It’s time to March On!

March On Lettermo Badge

What awaits you at the end of the March On rainbow, you might ask? Another excuse to write letters, of course!

In 2001, the USPS expanded their letterwriting week campaign to include the entire month of April. Various mail-centric blogs and entities have also taken up the call (such as Crane stationers, check back in April) as well as the folks over at Hallmark. We know that Write_On began gearing up for their April challenge in January. Watch their blog for fun mail items and connections to other folks offering content and enticements about letter writing.

Your LetterMo Postmasters aren’t going anywhere. We will continue to be active in our Facebook Communities, look after the forums, and like all your beautiful happy mail and artistic creations on Instagram, plus sharing all the fun and inspiring ideas we can find to help you keep your mailbox (and the mailboxes of others) happy.

USA Philatelic Catalog, Stamp Increases, Mail Art

Print catalogs and catalog companies have not endured the modern age of Eco, Techno or electronic media and the “have it now” generation.

The official source for stamp enthusiasts

The USA Philatelic is one that I enjoy! The  Fall 2017 Volume featured Sharks on the cover, great themes, insightful stories and articles regarding the beautiful stamp issues and products! (See collage above)  #usaphilatelic  You can “have it now” with a request at USPS here: (just wait for it the mail! )  USA Philatelic Catalog

Request: https://store.usps.com/store/product/stamp-collectors/usa-philatelic-P_012007

Although not a collector, I like to order the commemorative and seasonal stamps. In re-imagining the Philatelic cover, I converted it to an artvelope, or shall we say a pair of “Sharkvelopes”.  #artvelope  Two cut from the Shark centerfold!

Hopefully, a few of my lettermo penpals who weren’t traumatized by the 1975 Jaws film will enjoy one.  Mail art is another aspect of letter writing, that is fun, creative, crafty, thrifty and a fulfilling exercise! 🙂 The artvelope also opens a new topic with the person reading your letter.  Something to write back about, and perhaps include silly 1970’s movie references!   #mailart #envelopes #lettermo #stamps

Stamp Increase!!  Thanks to member, Heather S,  for reminding us that ordering now will save you a bit. She ordered hers early!  Rates Increase 1/21/2018.
